GU site (UN)attracting players.

Post by Zac »

It seems the GU site is not popular. several people have mentioned how it is hard to navigate, but the biggest problem is actually the presentation. people think its ugly. would it be possible to have the old site style back, just incorporate all the new quirks that ts added?

in my opinion the new site is way more appealing. the hardness of navigation will pass once people get used to the new style. just give it a little bit to sink into people.

I think we should have it like the duc leagues one. That one is much better and the gu one IMO is horrible

why dont you say what it is exactly about it that you dont like, rather than just complaining about the whole side. then the site devs might be able to fix that particular thing.

In my eyes, the the site isn't more difficult to handle than the old one. Beside the fact of being able to choose one of five different themes (and because nobody mentioned what makes the current themes so unattractive) you also have the option to create your own (which can be similar to the old one). If it's good looking and functional you can ask the site admin to add it as theme alternative.
Pretty easy, isn't it?

dito to kierra ::: strayer said it!
and to the complainer's I would add ::: just let get of old things and get used to new things before you get old and can't handle new things which are obviously an improvement ;)
or do something to improve it!

In my opinion the new site is much more elegant than the old one... perhaps everything is not so compact and boxy and purely functional, but I think it is a lot easier to look at.

I think some people are unaware you can change the skin/theme of the website. Once you login, look at the menu bar near the top of the screen and click the "config" link on the far right of the menu bar. There will be a drop down menu accessible by clicking on an arrow to change the theme.

Maybe changing the default themes to something better would be a good start.

Like the Dark theme. That would be a much better default.

Probably it is the best to change the default to something that is easy to understand like the 'white' which is really clear.

I prefer the "Dark" theme, as it really seems like the best one there. (At least I think that was the name)

and that's why the site was launched with additional choices in themes. More themes can be added for those with the skills and interest to code some.

'better' is in the eye of the beholder. It already has a default setting. Let the players assume some responsibility for checking out the site choices.

Not sure how it's implemented, but perhaps it is stored as a cookie, and maybe your browser deletes cookies when you close it?

heh, this is what i was gonna ask, is it possible to make the site save themes? so that the default is changed to that particular theme, i think right now even if some theme is better than others, people just can't be bothered changing it every time. and blast i doubt it's saved cookies..i have my browser set to save cookies and it doesn't clear them when i restart it.

Well, sort of. It saves it for approximately one month as cookie but the cookie is not renewed when visiting the website. So one would have to change it after one month again. It's planned to automatically renew the cookie in the next version.

You should set up your browser to store the cookie named 'stylesheet' (next version: 'theme').

Do not expect too much, though. It's basically switching to a template based output system and code restructuring. This means hardly noticeable changes on the front end.

However this should allow a lot easier and more flexible theme creation. Themes are still no concern for me but if there is demand from a few players, I try to make them happy, too.

I really hope you plan on rejecting the bbcode stuff and replacing it with something more flexible. That one is an annoyance when it comes to versatile css.
