Meeting for CTF league teams

Hey everybody,

I thought it would be nice if the CTF league teams could meet someday soon, preferably on IRC, to lighten up the community a bit. I.e. just talk, and be happy.

Right now there is not that much communication between teams.

The meeting would most suitably be held at #bzflag on irc.freenode.net:6667.

Suggested date and time: February 1st, 2004, 19:00 UTC

Give me some feedback so I know what you think. I hope to arrange an event like this soon.

What ski is saying is in fact one of my original thoughts with this meeting. Even if there would not be a large direct effect I believe there would be a very significant indirect effect, as the teams get to know each other better.

I just wanted to post some kind of preliminary schedule for the discussion /chat on Feb. 1st. So here goes:

(All times UTC. If you don't know your UTC offset please go and look it up. I think I will post a little UTC clock on the Fortix team site later just in case someone has doubts.)

19:00:00 - Discussion of B.I.T., other leagues /tournaments and similar stuff.
19:27:35 - Ideas for improving the league site.
19:40:15 - How to strengthen relations between teams and team members - publicise ICQ numbers etc?
19:50:02 - General chat.
22:33:59 - /superkill

If you have any ideas of other topics to discuss, please let me know.

Also, please show up at 19:00:00 UTC if you don't want to miss something. I can't guarantee that we won't get off one second or two from the schedule at some point.

I read that danish people drinks alot (something like 49,5 million liters of pure alcohol/yr - and we only got 5,5 million people).. So in this light, i needed to modify it abit.

I just wanted to make a short notice while I have some time to write.

The league meeting didn't go as I had hoped, and some of you may be disappointed. Mostly this is because I didn't have a good list of topics to discuss, and it got done a little hastily.

However, I hope some of you had fun. If not, those of you who know where I live will probably come and get me. Please wait a few days with that, though.

Anyhow, I will try and plan a new meeting like this, but take a different approach to it.

The meeting today did reveal some details that are worth noting, though. I hope to sum it up soon.

A few things that were mentioned:

- Integrate BZBB with league site? Could be done if the league site is moved to another site.
- Some interesting 4 vs. 4 matches with random players from CTF teams. Score would be shared between those in some way.
- Creation of a #bzmatches channel, where people could meet in order to set up matches. Personally I think this would help, although it seems dead at the very moment of writing this. Will dig into it...
- Someone could put up a page with proper contact info (ICQ number etc). Alternatively force people to update their info at BZBB.

This is not a complete list, but it gives you some idea. So as I said, the meeting wasn't fully efficient to understate it.
