Best Map Software
Best Map Software
Hi All,
I have just recently updated my Bzflag software to version 2.0.16.
And now I am just starting to get back into map making, right now i have a older map maker software (forgot the name) about 3 years old, and now i have decided that it's time for a new one, but there are like 4 different ones.
Which one should i choose?
Which is the best?
What do you guys like best?
Please tell me your opinion and reasons
Sincerely,
Firebolt

Notepad, Blender or Wings3D ... there really is noting newer than what you already have. There have been no earth shattering new editors released in that time frame. There has been work done on some new editors, but nothing that is usable at this point (I believe).

Re: Best Map Software
That really depends on what operating system you'r on.
I use a mac and I design the base layout of my maps in iBZEdit, then I open it in TextWrangler and finish editing it.
And if I need a mesh I design it in Wings 3D which is a simple to use 3D modeling tool and can export .bzw files.

I've got a lot of tools written in MS Visual Basic Express (which you can download from Microsoft for free); I usually write maps by writing scripts that generate map files. You're welcome to the source code, etc., if you like.

Re: Best Map Software
The best way to make a map at the moment is with your friendly neighborhood text editor. Hopefully we'll get a good GUI map editor sometime in the not-too-distant future.

Notepad, GEdit, whatever Mac uses - I prefer an extremely minimal text editor. Make sure you understand bzfs, though - you'll screw up if you don't have a local test server running. Trust me.

Checkout Smultron. It's pretty awesome. Someone also wrote a syntax highlighter for bzw worlds. It's around the forums somewhereAnathema wrote:Notepad, GEdit, whatever Mac uses - I prefer an extremely minimal text editor. Smultron is dead. It is now been taken over by someone else and is called Fraise: http://www.fraiseapp.com/
Soon we will be facing bots that we can't beat...

Smultron may be dead from a development standpoint... but I use it most every day. Long live Smultron!Scythio wrote:Smultron is dead. It is now been taken over by someone else and is called Fraise: http://www.fraiseapp.com/

I hope the bzw stylization still works on Fraise!
Re: Best Map Software
well then let's go with Smultron (and Spazzy McGee's syntax coloring) to the bitter end ........
