Re: bzflag on mac
Which version of BZFlag are you using? And where was it downloaded from?
Re: bzflag on mac
i have the 2.0.14 version and it was downloaded from sourceforge
Re: bzflag on mac
That's not the latest version. Upgrade to 2.0.16 and see if the problem goes away.
Re: bzflag on mac
can you please send me the link
Re: bzflag on mac
Here is the link, but you already know where to get it...
http://sourceforge.net/projects/bzflag/ ... 0X/2.0.16/

Re: bzflag on mac
hello again i downloaded the latest version but it still doe's the same problem
Re: bzflag on mac
Try to connect to server bzexcess.com port 5154.
If that fails, try to connect to server 173.45.72.146 port 5154.
If the first one fails, and the second one works, then for whatever reason your computer isn't wanting to resolve domain names within BZFlag.

the second one worked. what does that mean?

Try turning your firewall all the way off. I doubt it's the "incoming" connections. More likely something is preventing the bzflag client from sending the DNS lookup. Although that is strange, considering that you can pull up the server list.blast wrote:If the first one fails, and the second one works, then for whatever reason your computer isn't wanting to resolve domain names within BZFlag.
Re: bzflag on mac
i've turned off my firewall but still the same thing is happening
A solution? (maybe)
I can't think of anything else other than those specific domain resolutions are being blocked.
Try browsing (or pinging if you are so inclined) to http://bzexcess.com directly and see if the page loads, if not go to System Preferences > Network then under advanced for the current interface (the one with the green light in OS 10.5+) then under DNS add another DNS Server
I use 213.73.91.35

A friend told me about a site to get a list of the servers if you need to get on something. The list shows the IP addresses near the way right. Using that and the port numbers shown on the left, you should be able to access any server normally:
http://list.bzflag.bz/db/
so if anyone is having the same problem you can check it out

Re: bzflag on mac
The normal URL is http://my.bzflag.org/db/, and that's the same exact thing that the client uses to get a list of servers. So if someone could access that in a browser, then they should be able to get to in in BZFlag unless their computer is screwed up or their build of the game is broken.

Re: bzflag on mac
Try renaming your configuration file and see if it will launch normally after that.
http://wiki.bzflag.org/Config_File
You'll want to rename the directories for both 2.0 and 2.4, since the problem is likely caused by the configuration upgrade from 2.0 to 2.4. (We copy the 2.0 config, if found, to the 2.4 folder, and tweak a few settings during the upgrade steps)
