So long and thanks for all the fish!

Post by zaphod » Fri Dec 30, 2011 11:58 am

well this is not an easy task but I decided to stop my "engagement" in bzflag.
I am back to SimRacing and started to find a community around it.
I know after all those years (8 years!!!) in bzf, it will never be the same and when I think of all those great friends I found in bzflag, it makes me really sad to realize that the lack of thrill to play bzf lately, is tearing us apart over the last couple of month.
trust me ... writing these words I realize how difficult it is and there will be no official bye-bye.
I will stick around and hop into that tank once in a while to say hi to all those missed bzf-tanks.
1st of january is a good date to announce the end of hosting maps at 001.bzflag.fr.
looking at the server-activities, not much is going on anyway and therefore I don't think they will be missed.
being very little involved in bzf and not knowing what is going on in the community is not a good way to maintain a good and solid server and should be left to the active bzf-folks.

anyway ... So long and thanks for all the fish!

not a shock but very bad news all the same... we liked different bz styles but whenever the chance arose, it was always fun playing against and chatting with (*cough* + pwning) you. ^^ i can't thank you enough for hosting overdoze, my second favorite map ever, over the last couple of years and allowing me to watch over it. it has offered a great escape from the all too popular yet increasingly lame sniper/camper maps, i know you were fed up with too. i still hope something will happen and this game will change for the better and you will find it interesting again to return, but if that doesn't happen, you must be sure that you will be remembered as one of the most friendly and coolest people ever to have played/contributed to this game, my old friend from orion.

I hope the next time you come back, that things would be different.
But you are right, there is less of a thrill, that is clear.
Who knows? We might be just a few maps away.

I agree with Ahs3, do come back every once in a while.
An old face is always nice to see again.
Until next time Zap.

Just wanted to say I enjoyed your maps and playing against you. Making the DuPi generator was a fun challenge and interesting concept. Anyway, hope to catch you around sometime!

what sim racing? I play Nascar Racing 2003 Season, iRacing, Gran Turismo 5, and used to play Arca Sim Racing and Nascar Sim Racing.

Sorry to see you leave..

Maybe you could make a map that would combine Racing and BZ.. (can the players get out and have skirmishes like they do in racing? :lol-old: )

Stop by and say hi sometime..

Une bien triste nouvelle que voila. J'avais remarqué ton absence depuis un bon bout de temps ,j'avais mis ça sur le compte du boulot ...

Au revoir Zaphod. I hope Overdoze will be hosted on another server, it's a great map.

thanks to easy tank, overdoze is being hosted again after long and painful months of deprivation. please drop by to play the big city fight and send a /report if you notice something is different from the time zaphod was hosting it. now that the ffa crowd is not divided between the old and new bz versions anymore, it should regain popularity pretty soon.

That is great to hear, Green Manalishi!
