Recruiting System

Post by Snake12534 »

Hello, I seemed to notice that the leagues are becoming more and more inactive every single day. Years ago, GU League was extremely active, now the GU League is very low in activity. Reptiles are the highest active team, and we have trouble finding teams to play. The Ducati League is close to extinction.

So what do we do? Activity is dropping.

I suggest we create a Recruitment System. This might sound silly, but desperate times call for desperate measures. We should have a form in where it states: Invite your friends to play; then for each player you recruited, you get a honor badge, or candy, something. This method is use in so many games I play. Once someone invites another player, that player receives full help and instructions on how to register for GU League
Then someone can teach them how to play.

This is what I think we should have.

This game isn't very noob friendly though, especially the leagues.

We could help them by training with them and teaching them? Make them feel invited.

Maybe we can have a more friendly league map like quickshot with CTF with superbullet flags everywhere so it's way more chaotic and hard to cap unless one team is collectively much worse so most matches will end as draws and people will start going to kills instead until when everyone goes for kills someone realises they can cap because they travel solo and all the easy kills are on the other side of the map.

I think the form of recruitment more effective than recruiting friends is advertising bzflag in general. E.g. putting bzflag as your signature on Linux (or any other) forums. The main issue with this is that no one does it and it is considered dirty work (advertising on irrelevant forums) and the people who visit will probably never come back because they lose on Mofo and therefore don't realise that they could have more equal matchups in GU league (with appropriate match selection) and the chance to improve with the help of others.

Maybe we could have a quicker game mode that is more hectic with a bit of luck but the skirmishes being both fast and long (spawn time is low; map is small or has teleporters or shots are quick or tank is fast or CTF objective is not carried by tank) and teamwork having greater impact than skill (e.g. it doesn't matter if you are good 1v1, you can be highly useful just by going somewhere and being a distraction) or perhaps simpler tactics (where both teams know what it is to be done to win, but the opportunities are called by spawn luck or systematic rampage) and possible handicaps (uneven teams or an asymmetric map especially for unfair matchups or extra superflags on the lesser side; preferably not a score handicap because that doesn't make anyone feel better). Said game mode would not be on HIX map but then we can add meaning to the name "Games United" - a collection of games managed by the same league.

Or maybe a game mode where everybody wins.

BZflag has always been a very special game for special people playing it. Most of the players used to learn it the hard way, this isn't an easy game by any means. That's the reason why not so many people play it in comparison to FPS like COD, and it's perfect the way it is.
