Re: New tank skins for you to try.
I'm not sure how you do it anywhere else besides on a mac. My guess is it's somewhat similar, elsewhere.
On an apple computer, you right-click (or option-click) on the BZFLAG.APP, then choose "show package contents"
You will see a folder named "resources", open it.
Then see a file named "green_tank.png", re-name that file to something like "green_tank_original.png" Do not trash it, so you can get it back later if needed.
Put your new file into the folder, and name it "green_tank.png"
Start the bzflag.app. You should see your new file.
You can do this for any image in the resources file.

Re: New tank skins for you to try.
On Windows it should be C://Program Files (x86)/BZFlag (version)/data/green_tank.png
Re: New tank skins for you to try.
Ahh, I meant to my on-line profile. When I go to images.bzflag.org, and say I want to upload images, it says "You currently have no images pending moderation" and leaves. Thank you, though.
I've already found the package contents, and I've got a version of BZFlag just for testing textures. For example, take a look at this icon I've been working on.

Re: New tank skins for you to try.
You can't load tank textures or the in-game icon from images.bzflag.org or any other HTTP host. You have to replace your local textures that the game ships with, and they'll only show for you. Those texture hosting systems are only for use in maps/worlds.
Re: New tank skins for you to try.
I meant for a castle in one of my maps. Also, you don't have to use the textures for what they where intended, as long as it's for BZFlag. For example, you could make the base top sideways on a tower. I'm using it for, like I said, the tank textures for a towers for the four teams.

Re: New tank skins for you to try.
If it's for any objects within the map, it should be alright. (I think there may be an exception for teleporter borders however.)

Some of my BZFlag related stuff.
BZList.net Modern HTML5 server stats site.
BZFlag has a cycle every 1-3 years. Activity drops/stops and resumes some time after. It returns to 90% of what it was.
We see late in 2013, the following thread: Why are there only like 30 people playing BZFLAG at one time.
Let's say 2014 starts with 30 players:
With a cycle length of:
3 years: 2017=27 players, 2020=24 players...
2.5 years: mid-2016=27 players, 2019=24 players, mid-2021=22 players.
I think the cycles get shorter as time goes along, but the bigger issue is eventually that activity will not be able to sustain itself in the long run, as nobody waits an hour for people to show up.

That's fine, I don't know how to change that.
This is using the tank matref, it doesn't look the same with anything else

You could put up the icon on the side of a building saying "BZFlag" and it would be fine.

Even if you couldn't, I don't think anyone would object to this. If anyone does, feel free to say no.

Re: New tank skins for you to try.
You can use the tank images/textures and icons, you just can't "load" them from another source to use as tank images/textures.
In short: They can be used in or on a map and they can be used on your tank, but they can't be used to change how your tank appears to others.
To give an analogy:
- Loading images/textures into a map, is like adding wallpaper to a room.
- Changing tank images/textures, is like wearing tinted lenses.
- Wearing tinted lenses doesn't change the world, it only changes what you see from your perspective.
- Therefore, you can't change how others "perceive" the world, but you can add wallpaper in the world.

Re: New tank skins for you to try.
I know, that's not what I was wanting. The icon uses the texture of electric_purple for it, I was thinking, for example, on the side of a building, it could be an advertisement, (Or something like it,) for bzflag. I don't want to use it for tank or icons unless people downloaded it. I know how I could do it.

Re: New tank skins for you to try.
It's beginning to get confusing: Are you talking about a building in the game or in the real world, or both?red rider wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 5:14 am I know, that's not what I was wanting. Since it's first related to icon and tank textures, later it merges to how some things aren't technically possible, and now we're relating it to the usage inside the game, and even possibly interpreted to real world applications?
Because to summarize it: Yes, you can virtually use the textures anywhere (depending on license and similar). Some things just aren't possible in the game due to design or technical issues, and that's the only thing which pretty much has been said.

Re: New tank skins for you to try.
Got it, I meant, for example, on the side of a "random" generated map, I'm wanting to use it for in-game buildings, but I want to have access to it on https://images.bzflag.org so that nobody has to go edit there files and not know where they are. I included the "Where" in srvmsgs, but I don't think people look at those often. I want people to join and play, not go edit this one file for one map-it would be easier just to play on a different one.

Sounds good, thanks for the clarification.
Since there seems to be an issue with uploads for now. You can try contacting blast via the forums private message feature and include the images there.
If it's an image you haven't made, check for the license & author information with regards to the images. If it's under an approved open-source license, it likely can be used.

Re: New tank skins for you to try.
Thank you for these skins, do you mind if I upload them for https://images.bzflag.org? I made a map with them, and I would like to host it but first I would like to have the textures available for use.optic delusion wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2010 12:44 am I've been experimenting with camoflage, shown here is an electric blue and a digital green camo tank.
If you know how to rename and add new textures to your BZ application, please try them out and give me your opinion. The electric set is complete and highly recommended. They are in this directory. http://images.planet-mofo.com/A-Delusio ... rge/skins/
More textures may appear in the near future. Don't forget to first rename the original textures.

Re: New tank skins for you to try.
Do whatever you want with them. I made them using the filterforge plugin for photoshop. Call it BSD license or whatever is the most permissive.
But...
Uploading them to bzflag.org doesn't really get you anything. Players still have to download and install the textures on their own. My link is as good as the bzflag.org link.
Edit:
Oh, you want to use them in a map, not as tank skins.
