Your Key Mapping
What keys do you use when you play BZFlag? I use Space to Fire, X to Lock On/Identify, V to Drop Flag, and C to Jump, and the rest are defaults.
Jeez, you guys have the most weirdest and difficult keys
I use mouse to move around, and joystick in CVS versions, tab to jump, z to drop flag, right mouse to lock on/respawn, space to fire, and f12 to quit quickly (I mean, to show the cheat menu ). The rest I barely, if ever use, such as binoculars, flag help, and all that other garbage.

Carnage.... Doesn't matter what I use, its all NooB to me. :D:D
Well, maybe i should specify that i use mouse. yea, the weird looking mouse you operate with your thumb. Its rock solid. Whenever I get upset, I just bang it with my fist. Not to sure if that helps or not... but. Makes me feel better. I'm afraid if i get a differen't mouse i'll break it, or in a fit of passion, ram my hand into the wall when trying to dodge.

z -- drop flag
x -- identify
c -- jump
space -- fire
I know the binoculars seem kind of useless, but when you get the laser they're great. With them, I can easily pick off unsuspecting tanks on the other side of the map. The only problem is if you're looking only through binoculars, and don't pay enough attention to the radar, and someone on the other team creeps up behind you....

I play with the keyboard, not the mouse, so I use 0 for jump instead of tab. That allows me to keep my hands on one side. Both the numpad 0 and top-bar 0 register though, so it's a pain when I'm typing and accidentally jump by entering a number.

Hey its ok, They were talking to me. I'm used to it. I've gotten quite the number of insults during my age. A few more won't make that much of a difference.

space and middle mouse to drop flag, left mouse and enter to fire, right mouse to identify/lock, tab to jump,
1,2,3 for radar. out of all the keys i use the radar buttons i use the most, about 500 times in a match or more
oh ya and i use the cheat that the devs added to 1.10.6
atl+ctrl+f12 to activate small tank
(kidding or am i?)

keys
the most effiecient i think is a little as possible
hand movement...
TAB = jump
space = drop flag
you can rest your middle finger on tab and thumb on space bar..
no pun intended...
almost no movement just a flick to jump or drop
right mouse = lock
left mouse = fire
again index/middle finger on your right hand..no movement
except for using mouse to go forward or back or turn
you can do that with minimum movment...
this way you never have to look down at the key board
and keep your eyes on the radar and HUD....and you
rarely miss a key stroke.....and never a mouse click...
1.2.3. for radar size...but i rarely change from 2
so i am not tweaking on the keyB...
opinion: 90% focus on game rather then keys...
it means much better consentration on combat
esp. shooting little gerbils.... LOL
maybe this will give you an idea:
on a rifle squeeze the trigger..not pull the trigger
= less movement...= dead furry animal = dead gerbil
= dead toaster = dead patlabor = dead SGI etc etc.... LOL

I'm with Carnage on this one, I use the 1/2/3
radar keys a whole bunch. Because it is also
a 'view' function, I've mapped binoculars to 4
(only used with laser). Other then that, I've
mapped 'R' for radar flags and 'E' for view flags,
and everthing else is standard. If the 'O' button
hadn't been changed in 1.11.x to not switch to
'kick:' automatically, I would remap that too.
Maybe something like ALT-X CTRL-T SHIFT-Z
ALT-O, so as to avoid kicking people accidentally.
