LIST SERVER Issues, and a new version

Post by JeffM »

To fix the list server problem, a new version of bzflag has been release 1.10.8

It is now on source forge downloads at https://sourceforge.net/project/showfil ... up_id=3248

presently windows binary and source zip are avalable more packages will be posted as people build them.

It is recomeneded that all users upgrade so they can use the new list server.

It changed.

or just add -list http://list.bzflag.bz/db/ when your run BZ

that's all that changed. We can't get the old list server back, it's owner is gone.

2 questions

Will this fix be the new permanent residence of the server list?

and

What happened to the owner?
Beware! I'm going to clone myself and spread those clones all over the world!

Yes, it will be a permanent change.
Tim is the owner of the old list server, and he's in Italy on vacation.

when he gets back we will have him move the DNS of the old server to point to the new server.

the new server is hosted by nidhoggr at a very nice datacenter.

Phew, for a moment I had read your comment on him being 'gone' in the worst possible way :\

He's in Italy on vactaion.

We've sent him a mail asking him to change the old URL to point to the new server, hopefully he can do that remotely and then we'll be good again. if not then the older versions won't work till he does come back.

Hehehe, that's much better news than the thought that something bad might have happened. Hope he's having a great vacation. Must be, or he'd be online more. :)

Thanks, PatLabor221, nidhoggr, and all the other devs busy trying to get things operational again. (for all of us)

Now what an interesting coincidence, I happen to be in Italy working. If he's in Sicily, give me a physical description, if I meet him I'll tell him in person :lol-old:

for a high res version just grab the alt data dir from the old one and put it in the new data dir.

SF is the only place to get it. If you can't use SF you have bigger issues that you must solve.

The "new" list server has been updated to pull all the servers that are using the "Old" list server. so if you use the newone, or use 1.10.8 you'll see all posible publick servers.
