what? Is that in an error messege you recieve when trying to run BZ?
Or is it in the setup.
Win32 should work for Win98 with no problem.

Sir Lance-A-Lot, do you have windows 98?

I sure did, and boy was BZFlag a nightmare! Every time I clicked on it, I got an 'illegal operation' box, and after a few more tries, it'd FINALLY open up. But it had to be played with EVERYTHING on low quality. Only then could you achieve your 5fps max.

Are you sure it isn't just that you don't have a recent enough DirectX ?

BZFlag should run on Windows 98 just as well as anything else does  A clean system with a good 3D video card will do fine.

the enemy is probably on the right track. According to http://my.bzflag.org/builds/ the released BZFlag 2.0 requires DirectX 7 or later.

I run bzflag under Windows 98 (first ed) regularly, without problems. Make sure you have the latest video and sound drivers and a recent directx.

There may be other updates as well. The last relse was built with the current microsoft compiler, there may be updates to the runtime librarys on 98 to help support that. Run windows update, and get everything you can get.

I have XP now, but our old compy used to run 98. I got the same stuff as baddmove did, I just didn't report it anywhere because I could play fine on the XP compy.

Windows 98 is stable enough to be a good bzflag server though ;)

If you don't take into account the problems it has with suddenly bumping people off and not letting them join.

I just wanted to drop by and say high. What might be his problem is that he did not download OpenGL compatable drivers. FOr example, my unit with win XP service pack 1a has a 32 meg Nvidia 256 in it. AT first, it ran as fast as a snail. Then i updated to the newest OpenGL drivers and now im getting 56 frames per second or more. Anyways, i just wanted to say that win98 is about the best OS a computer techie kid like me could own. All 11 of my units except my dell use 98 Second Edition. i have one with a 16 meg Nvida Vanta 16 using the Rive TNT 2 chip with 16 megs of onbored ram, and got a decent (for me, at least) 25-40 frames per second. It came with its own opengl drivers.
