Hepcat Map Contest

Post by SilverFox »

2.0 brings all kinds of potentional when it comes to map making. Here's your chance to show off creativity, boldness, genius or whatever it is you add to your maps. Hepcat will be holding a map contest of the next several months, and you're encouraged to submit your best work. Take a look here:

http://hepcat.bzflag.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=248

Rules:
  • Any portions of your map that have been borrowed from another map or authored by someone else must be creditted appropriately.
Any special options for your map must be in a "options" block (ie, worldsize, flags, etc)
You must submit screenshots of the map and submit the map here by the deadline
No more than 3 maps per contestent may be submitted.
Submissions should be original. Players will be encouraged to judge on overall originality, playability, and fun'ness.
The contest will be made up of three stages 1) Submission 2) Exhibition 3) Judgement. They are outlined below:

1) Submission. Submit your map (you may submit the map to me privately if you prefer) and screenshot here for users to see. All maps that are to participate must be recieved by July 1st, 2005 PST. Any submissions recieved after this date will not be considered. Early submitters will get their map exhibited for a longer period.

2) Exhibition. Although maps may be put on the server prior to July 1st, 2005 for general viewing, all maps will recieve equal viewing time AFTER July 1st. Maps will be on a rotation, and will continue to be for 1 month so users can try each submission.

3) Judgement. An server message will tell players to come here to vote for their favorite map. Registered users of this forum will vote on their favorite map.

The screenshot. This is a old screenshot. The newer version of the map has the rocks at random rotations so it looks alittle bit more realistic.

The map is attached.

I dont play hepcat and im not sure how the HepCat style is setup...

Hepcat also hosts the Overlord server which is three shots jumping, superflags. Generally speaking, hepcat servers seem to have niched in low shot two team CTF (which looks like what this map is for)

However, the map contest is not constrained to a certain map type.

BIYA, I'll copy your post to: http://hepcat.bzflag.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=248

Okay, new screenie and a new version of the map.
Image
The new version. Decided to change the name. Its called Reloaded.

When I was working on it I came into a few pickles along the way. Thats why it has taken me about 3 to 4 days to get the new version done. Here is what I have done.

Random rotation to the rocks.
New teleporter arangement.
Cleaned up the text file alittle bit.
Made it to Hepcat standards.
Got rid of some of the FPS issues.
Fixed some Cylinder bugs at each base.
Exchanged those giant ugly rocks for more sleek looking glass pyramids.

No standards!

Post by SilverFox »

Great. I'll get it up for viewing in a couple weeks (out of town right now)

Keep in mind that this is an overall map contest (playability, creativity, overall etc) and you don't really have to follow any "standards" other than the rules posted above. (Doesn't have to be similar to other Hepcat maps) It's entirely up to you.

New HepCat Map

Post by Ice Wewe »

Hey,

Lookin' good. I'm sure mine wont come close to what yours will be, but hey, I'm always up for a challenge. My map (sorry, its not quite screen shot ready) will be based on the old HepCat map (the one right now) but will have some crazy new n00b features! Ta!

Hey I fixed all the bugs in my TowerZ map, and added a couple new things to it. All links work, and it has 4 CTF bases.
Its now called TowerZ 2.0

OK, I've got TowerZ and Bei-Zei-Fak into the rotation at hepcat.tybox.net:5157 Also updated Biya's map (actually each of them are set up to download the map from the links above before launching the map)

You'll note that a couple of them only have a single shot. This is because you need to set how many shots you want in the "options" block of your map.

Also, its a good idea to add a -srvmsg to your options block describing your map. Try something like:

-srvmsg "Welcome to the Caverns. Map by Legoguy"

Biya, are the options settings right for your map?

I must say, I'm quite impressed by the originality of these maps. Biya, I particularly like your pyramids.

Yeah the options are set right for the map. If you want to you can increase the speed alittle bit. I didnt add the srvmsg either so if you want you can add that to. Unless you want me to do it and attach it?

Anyone interested in changing there map or settings in it can do so by simply editing it at the current location (the URL you posted above), if you have to change its location, just let me know and I'll update the URL in the script.

I'm not going to do any manual editing.
