The game is running too slow on linux

Even when going up and down on menu (before enter the a server), it goes too slow..I hit down and it needs 1 sec or even more to the cursor go down...

I'm on linux debian sarge....My computer is a k6 II - 300 128mb ram and my video card is the following: http://www.baber.com/baber/graphics/agp ... 20_III.htm

What should I do? Is my computer enough to play the game nicely?

it's not going to go very fast at all on that old system ( it sounds very similar to my first PC )

the Riva 128 chipset does minimal hardware accelleration. Nvidia does not make drivers for it. X has a driver that does, so you should be ok. Allthough on that system software renderiing may be faster then your hardware.

Just start turning graphic features off untill it runs faster ( I would not expect more then 20-30frames per second ). Texturing, shadows, lighting should be all off, and you will probably want to set the quality to low.

it's a default driver, you probably allready have it.

How many frames per second are you geting.

And have you turned all the things down.

When bzflag first starts It will tell you what openGL driver it is using, what does it say?

Tried to run once from shell and the following error is shown:

Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0"

It opens the game though...Maybe thats the main problem, besides my bad and old video card

yes you will want to make sure your X windows has the current verison of DRI. how you get that is up to your distroubtion/package manager.

When I run glxgears it says that I get 70 FPS....Inst it enough??

Have tried to install DRI here, but have some problems to get it working

I've got an AMD 1800XP (1.53GHz) and a GeForce3
vidcard (certainly not the latest or greatest gear). I get
about 2300 FPS with glxgears (300x300 geom).
70 FPS is very low for glxgears.

It seems you have more an x-server problem than a bzflag one.

You have a Debian, and from your nick I suppose u speak spanish, so start asking in : www.esdebian.org, there is a lo of help there.

The HOW-To and docs specific of X and maybe your hardware-under-x can be found in www.xfree86.org, and maybe are in your disk.

Be sure u are NOT being using vesafb.

If u are using the accelerated server and it is still slow try using a lower color depht (16 bits , i.e).

U can "less" the /var/log/XF86log0 file and read it looking for something that tells u if u are using the acelerated server.

Tellme if u need more help (but the www.esdebian.org is the best place for asking and looking for similar questions)

The latest version of BZFlag runs much faster. As I said in anouncements, I did not have to install 3D accell for it run fast.

I know that in Fedora I have to run bzflag as root. If not it's slow and the sound is all choppy and horible. Maybe that'll help you in Debian. Of course, if you're runnign Debian you probably know enough abotu Linux to be able to give access to wahtever it is BZFlag needs in order to run smothly. That's just an assumption though; considering I could hever make ti through a text install: not even for gentoo
