Armegedon CTF map

Post by JeffM »

Attached is a map I've been working on while making model tool and an as of yet un-named editor project. It is running at bzflag.bakadigital.com:4105. It's a sizeable map because I made heavy use of meshes and downloadable textures. I had to zip it because the forums don't allow a 9 meg file to be atached.

There is also a screenshot.

Nice work, but it runs a little slowly.
Maybe you could take out some of
the trees or decimate the buildings
for fewer polygons?

I'm still having problems with the polygon reduction code in the new map editor (it's geeking some normals ). I will try to work on that tomorow. Maybe you can look at it in CVS when you have time. The linux builds work again, so it should be fine just like Windows and the other OSs.

Checked out the map - very nice! We'll be leaving UT2003 in the dust soon. The server you put up is very fast and should draw in a great crowd. Stupendous!

llol - very good

Wow, a 2.0 editor! I want to know how many copy & paste's it took you to get all those objects in that map. It's like I'm actually there! :D

You should download the map and dissect it and use some of the cool objects for your maps :)

I was about to post and ask if I was the only one one able to get it working.

Then I opened the map with a text editor, and saw

"what is today?
what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?what is today?"

I even went so far as to write up a post. Before submitting it, I scrolled up to make DOUBLE SURE there wasn't some sort of funkdafied instructions I was missing. Then I saw what day this was posted on.

JeffM, you bunghole!

I've been to and I've seen the Island hopping map, as well as the tree of life on one of the "noboy" servers on the bottom of the server list, so I figured that it very well could be true, and I still say not entirely far from possible either.

But alas, you got me. Props.
...This has been a recording.

I confess: I had to go on BZFlag and search for the server it was hosted on, and when I didn't find it I downloaded the map myself and tried to run it. Good job!

Ahh the glory of a 5 min photoshop job.

Sadly I wish I had more time to think of someting better.

you can't be serious, read the other posts about it :)

I_Died_Once
using all meshes the bzflag format techincaly would support it, trepan even started modeling it in blender for fun. Someone could probably even make a UT2k4 to bzw map converter. Problem would be is they would run slower then crap due to the fact that the poly counts would choke the current engine, and the fact that the bz physics paradigm would not allow a tank to even move over that thing :).

seriously man.

it was posted on april first. what is that commonly called? Maybe something like "APRIL FOOLS DAY"?

read I_Died_Once's post. put 2 and 2 together.

if that dosn't get it for you then this may;

it is a fake map. it was an april fools joke. It is a UT2004 screenshot with the bzflag UI put over it. that's it. The map won't run, there is no server. there is no map, there is no spoon. :)

Most of us got caught in this one. I also got caught in thinkgeek.com 's joke (The laser beam for tracking aircraft), and google's one (the GoogleGulp). I'm pretty gullible.
