Hi Jeff

Newbie to the forums but being playing since 10.4
thanks for the reply

Just started occuring -
I thought it was self explanatory -nothing loads after a stack fault
double click bzflag icon
screen goes black
error msg posted...I thought it was video drivers so I loaded new nvidia
still crashes

Uninstalled everything
re-downloaded; re-installed ; played the game once -couldn't the second time
downloaded new nvidia drivers
same stack fault
loaded old nvidia drivers
still crashes
went back to bzflag 2.0
same thing

system specs -i think (not at the system right now)
nvidia 5700 128mb
p4 1.7 -upgrade soon
512 ddr
gigabyte mb

Only change is alot of (fun) play at new texture/test servers

I actually found some information from sourceforge (2 yrs old) about stack faults in nvopengl.dll and the fix was to try "g0" which makes no sense to me so I posted my problem and hopefully someone will recognize and reply.

what is obvious is that it crashes.

does it crash on launch, or sometimes after? do you see anything? Have you updated anything on your computer recently? What version of windows are you running? There are thoundands of reasons why things can crash. that error only has info that is pertanant to your system and your set up. it is only usefull if you were running a debuger local on your system.

Most people run fine with nvidia. If it used to work and now dosn't that means something changed on the system, ether in the OS, or the hardware. the game software dosn't overwrite itself. Was it posible that you were trying difrent setings? and hit a setting that screwd up your config? You may want to try deleteing your "my bzflag files" folder in your my documents folder and leting bz start with a new clean config.

Thanks again for the response Jeff - Am I posting this in the right forum?

Yes there are a plethora of reasons why but hopefully SomeOne is familar with this Particular error msg and has a Fix which theY will be kind enough to post

W98se
It crashes on launch -ergo
double click bzflag icon
screen goes black then
hourglass
(nothing else happens -computer must be restarted)

been very stable on this machine until now
no bzflag settings changed -
!important -microsoft internet explorer updates<- might be relevant ;doubt it
uninstalled; and deleted everything; re-installed both 2.02 and 2.0
I'm leaning towards video card -though it was purchased within the year and has been stable also

eww 98, not the best OS. Gotta love an OS that lets apps take the entire system down :)

make sure you have a current version of direct X. then reinstall the current nvidia drivers from nivia ( not your card mfg. )
blow out your bzflag config, maybe it got jacked up.

try runing in windowed mode if that dosn't work.

the crash message is generic. Techicialy it's dying in side the video driver, so it's not application code so it's hard to know what could cause it.

*Assuming* there is some kind of software GL layer in the windows standard SVGA drivers, trying these with sucess would lead me to belive that there is a GFX card hardware problem.
The name of the library causing the dump certainly sounds like proprietry driver material. You haven't plugged anything into the S-Video port of the card lately have you? Just a thought...

Any ways, welcome to the forums, sloop. :)

Yes, process of elimination. Apparently not a problem with your client's files if you stripped everything. Did you make sure to remove all related files BZFlag creates in your documents folder? ...

%UserProfile%\My Documents\My BZFlag Files

If you did, next diagnose your video...

btw, sloop... what's that hole in the chest of your x-ray? Is that you with a gunshoot wound or something?
