Underwater bzflag

Post by Hannibal »

What about an underwater version of bzflag? We could call it UBZflag or something. Instead of just jumping you could dive or jump and there would be a 'seafloor' and 'waterline' for top and bottom. Dont know about flags, though.

That sounds like a great idea for a map, not a separate program!

Yeah, a server with the right map and gravity manipulated to feel like water would be really cool.

I like the whole idea of being able to put water in a map, the only problem is when it can kill you/ your tank

Yeah, that would stink for most of you... because then I'd be everyone's "Admiral of Rusted Tanks". :) You don't want to have to take orders from me... trust me, hehehe.

I dont want it to just feel like water, it should actually be water, and cant you set the server to not kill you in water?

Yes, you can, but you have to realize that the water on maps are just flat planes with moving textures. So there's really no "water" in the maps.

hmmm i think i know what im gonna do this weekend.... lol, yea you can make it so the water doesnt kill, its just making the texture look like water when your under it, and maybe even add like a whirlpool to suck you in, i saw a map once where i was sucked to the center of the map, it was kinda weird, and i couldnt get away without shooting myself, or maybe it was another game but it would be cool....

Maybe you could create a giant meshbox with a light transparency, color it light blue, and set gravity really low? The meshbox would have to be drivethrough. That way, there'd be a giant sea!

Ya, that sounds like it would really work and it is just what I was hoping/thinking. I think you should try it Sir-Pants and the idea of a whirlpool is great. Is anyone wondering why they didnt think of this?

nobody thought of it cause im insane, the only real problem is to get the flags to spawn underwater, unless one was to make little wholes in the boxes then make dozens if not hundreds of "zone" areas for flags to spawn in those tiny wholes, this sounds like a problem and i feel like i just repeated myself there a couple of times.....

well, maybe instead of tanks underwater, it could be like a morphing thing. Like there's a pool in the center and when you get deep enough, your tank morphs into a sub or something. That'd be cool...

i dont think that is possible without making a new game unless one is able to change the colors of the tank through some special commands? (question towards jeff), or if it is possible to make a teleporter go from vertical to horizontal so there would be special ways to reach the surface....

that's a good idea, and here's an easy way to put flags: create a platform with it's bottom just touching the water, and then steps from the bottom, so that the tanks only have to surface for flags, and then dive right back under with the flag!

yea that is a way, im making hundreds of walls about 1x10x15 and im gonna give them textures of water, then the outside will have water and and i will add bases and such as i go along, that way i dont have to worry about a flag problem

The hard thing would be to imitate "floating" in water. Actually, I think that's impossible. Wings is too wings-ish and doesn't correctly represent the physics of an object in water. Whatever idea you come up with for this map, I'll be glad to see it!

Wings could work if you made it so it only went up a tiny bit when you jumped and you had quite a few jumps... You would also need to lower the gravity...

Yes, that sounds good, but I along with RPG would like to see it first and make suggestions as to how it could be improved and such.
