There is no legit way to determine the best player in bzflag. The different servers all have their different challenges and specialties.

I, for example play mofo and secretplace most, and have become good at those. I am not so good at hepcat and ducati styles, because I do not play at them alot.
Games don't make people violent, lag does.

There are lots of excellent players out there... I don't know them all. But I am afraid of RedBaron2, Carnage and dot/skit.
I think we already have such a topic somewhere... :|

Manu

Post by The Psycho Chicken »

Of the players I know, Manu is the best.

I played a lot against him and with him since A*$se's playground and he gets my vote for more than just his scoring.

While that is true for most of your above average players, there are a small, small few, that are the best anywhere you put them. Becuase they have mastered the basics and advanceds of bzflags. And I do not find it coincedental that they also have mastered the ducati style.

and yes there is another topic out there under "Players"

Weeelll, Baron now that you say it, I agree with you. I think we are all prejudiced on this topic because noone i mean noone has played with all of the players out there, so there could be one that has played only at obscure times and obscure servers.?

You gotta remember that those scores could have been made in unfair playing conditions (like 50 bots and 1 very very large SW) and therefore they become useless.

Quick links to Mikkel, The Red Baron, and Dervish...

http://stats.bzflag.org/playerinfo.php? ... +Red+Baron

http://stats.bzflag.org/playerinfo.php?callsign=Mikkel

http://stats.bzflag.org/playerinfo.php?callsign=Dervish

Mikkel beats us so far. I still have the best 'low score' of these chaps. :p hehehe. Though, it does take me a little while to warm up, on any server. :)

Slayer is pretty good too, I've played him a few times. Still, I think Mikkel is better 1 on 1...

the problem with those stats... Is I am rarely on the server that it watches. and rarely do I play for a highscore. I play till i beat the person on top (which is usually 75+-)

I frequent ducati, GU, and Hepcat...

That's true, the stats are from a different server. At least it tracks my hepcat stats, though I don't get much time to play compared to a year or so ago.

Why bother?

Post by Grumbleduck »

Why bothering about who is the best player?
The best player on a current game is the best player there, usually... not always..

Remember, score isnt everything, sometimes I just play to hold our own while others do the score huntin, I usulally end up hunting the top players on the other team, be they whomever :-)

Sometimes I play well, sometimes I suck, much to the mood and state of tiredness I am in :-)

Wise said...

And additionally, lag is an issue. Players with low lag have an
atvantage.

Not necessarily. It's true that a player with low lag has some advantages, but there are also disadvantages when playing against players with high lag. Trying to hit a player with high lag is difficult, and if you yourself have low lag, then everyone has a better shot at you.

Lag a factor...

Post by Grumbleduck »

I find that lag IS a factor... not as much as it was before, and if I check a tanks lag before I shoot at it it's usually not such a big problem, it would be nice to have the tanks show the lag as a label on them, would make it easier :-)

The biggest problem for me is when their jitter is high and even worse when they have packetloss, even a low percentage on thoose can make them practically unhittable in a game, thats when I get Grumpy :-D

If you ever met me in a game when I start missing something that to me is a certain hit, I do get a bit Grumpy...

That be it as it may, the most irritating thing in the game is people that dont play it well on the team servers like Viper and Hepcat, on a death-server it doesnt make any real difference, but on a CTF it is real annoying ;-)

I'm not trying to get off-topic too much, but wanted to make a quick comment on annoying lag...

The worst: a CL tank is below you and jumps straight up, hitting you square on. Of course with the player's lag, you didn't see/hear the tank until it was way above you in the jump. It's so annoying because it's a noob move to jump straight up at a tank and easy to avoid and counter-strike. Yet they have no clue that their lag, and only their lag, is making their noob moves worthwhile. *sigh*

people take advantage of their high lag like you wouldn't believe. I was playing at MoFo this morning, and there was this one player who was insanely jittery.... he would just jump all over the place and nobody could shoot him.

the stats do not help indicate strength of a player who plays "HTF" games as i have found, as you can end up with huge negative scores.

also, some CTF players have poor kill ratio numbers and are wicked players.

1 v 1 and rogue player ffa stats are maybe more accurate.

IMO, Manu is one of the best players I've seen play.

That and RedBaron2, Mikkel, and the best cop goes to Toaster :) .
