That would be nearly impossible to implement.

Plus ppls voices are different.

I could say "hello, rogue"

And it would print: "he'll rome"

Not very doable...

well there is no way to filter out bad words in written form on bzflag except silence that is.. i think if voice is ever made (i pray it will soon) then it is bound to silence text from the person aswell as voice if you decide to silence someone :)

Yes, If the server is set to mask cusswords with %#$%$ it will.

My point: with voice chat, you get to hear 'You #$%$$#^%#&ing ^%^%^&er, you %^&%^*, why i'll ^$$^%$*& you' in 7.1 channel surround sound.

Well, I guess I wouldn't mind all that much. I'd have to mute the volume while my mom's watching :D .

And.....
Dial-up is still used around here. I only get 2.8k (edit: sorry, 28.8k :lol-old: ) through my phone line, too!

well, whatever, I'll have DSL by the time voice chat gets added.

You can't. :)

Not without some crunching program anyway, one that scans for any of the million vulgarities there are.

Personally I would simply opt for a 3d party app, and tell anyone else you want to talk to about it.

Why not make a seperate program that intergrates into BZFlag?
Teamspeak is nice, but is it GPL?
Do you need to use their servers (it seems like it, but i don't think so)?

(Hnostly, the only major reason is in competition where it would be most useful)

vaxorcist, you get 28kbps?....wow...i am on dial-up, and get 48kbps....but i dont like voice chat, you would have to get a mic. to talk verbally, and what about taking me1's idea and reverse it. ppl would type, and then this totally sexy female voice says what you type. but you cant have a typo.

A text to speech engene TOTALLY ruins the point of voice chat.

Imagine:secure f, get GF, BRB, [and so on]

for things like that, you would have a set command to type in, then it would say whatever the command was set to.

I've said it: a text to speech engene is pointless. The whole reason there is voice chat is so you don't need to use the keyboard. If anything, commands you say should be converted to text. (which is still a bad idea- there is no free as in freedom speech to text engene that I know of)

i dont think its a good idea, next thing you know there will be people having "phone sx" on bzflag and others just going "BLBLABLABLABLABLA" to annoy people, and you cant filter audio chat so next thing you know, cussers will be astray also..

Hence why it should only be used in matches, for the leagues... :)

Thats why I think there should be vote-vased killing and silencing as well.

Lets remember that there is such a thing as social engineering.

bzflag is soo trusting a game...people could simply play in a window and keep going from one player to another, to modify the votes...

Yah, you are kinda right about that. And that's what I like about BZFlag.

Still remember, social engineering is a very strong force. Even before vote-based kicking, cheaters didn't last very long on a single server.

[+edit] And on that topic, a single person with 3-6 logins on a single server is very obvious. Teams don't like it when their members slack off.
