Bzflag olympics
What if there was a bzflag oylimpics!? We would pick like 2-5 days out of a year and we would have compitions. Some event examples would be 1v1 challenge, salom driving(lol), or ctf teams. When you win you get points and theres a winner at each event then an over all winner of them all.
What do you think?

This oylimpics is defintly possibal because...you can use some of the same stuff from 1v1 were you register and thenplay official matches. We could say in a week you can play up to two matches in an event. Then you are only aloud in the server as in observer so you cant play anymore in the event.

I could host! I just need to know the server hours and all the config options. A Saturday would be better, though. (Even a Saturday, I can't do all day.)ducatiwannabe wrote:I've been trying to find somebody to host this so I can do this contest, but nobody wants to.

I can handle the CTF. FFA at 20 players is a little too much. 15 players is about when the lag jumps... I don't have a pro line, but it should be good enough until someone else with a T1 can host. Please ask that everybody has a broadband connection for now.
On the observers: I can handle quite a bit, as observers don't take as much bandwidth. How's 8 available slots? I have a 10 max. with 2 on all the time.
Sorry about the lag, but it's the best I can do. I would still love to host the first olympics. I just need the map and config file with all the options you want. Don't forget the date and hours. (An all day event depends on what day and schedule.) Thank you so much for this oppurtunity!

Olympics can be exciting indeed. However, they take up a lot of resources to pull off. If you have time, let me show you my twist on these Olympian ideas of glory.
This suggestion is something I have normally given at my various places of employment over the years to show everyone how stupid management can be.
For example, I used to work at a warehouse where we were treated like animals. We picked many many cases of product that weighed about 30lbs apiece. Not very heavy but we were expected to pick about 1200 cases in 8 hours. Needless to say, it was very exhausting. At any rate, I went to management one day and suggest that we have a "Warehousemen Olympics". I suggested that we all come in on a day that we all had off and pick cases for competitions that would judge speed and accuracy. Management ate this stuff up. They really thought it would boost morale. Fortunately, everyone thought it was stupid and no one (including myself) volunteered.
Later I did this at my job in a datacenter. I suggested that we have a competition to see who could set up a rack of ten servers the fastest. Who could configure an Apache web server the fastest etc etc. Predictably, management ate this idea up. Of course, no one was willing to spend their time off to do this.
What does this have to do with BZFlag? Nothing really except that they are a good idea generally as long as they're not carried out. Still, though, I would like to see some type of organized BZFlag event that gave out prizes and the like.
