Attached is the bzw file and screenshots for a map I just released called Metropolis. It is a city layout with underground sewers, currently in beta test on louman.homelinux.net:5154.

Great map! I saw it on your server. Love the tunnels, only you can get stuck if you're not careful. :|

Thanks for the compliments! I used the texture red_basetop.png for the manhole covers (UV mapped to fit, and colored).

By the way, I have removed the limits on the radar so that the whole map can be seen. I originally thought that it might be a good idea to limit the range of the radar, but it seems too difficult to find other players when there are only 2 or 3.

So, if you host the map, please remove or comment out the following line:

-set _radarLimit 200

Thanks again :)

I have thought about rabbit chase (actually, it was my first thought) - perhaps I will run it as such in the near future. Or maybe someone else will host it as rabbit chase...

Yeah. it would be cool... CTF not so much, maps not symmetrical so it could be uneven...

Metropolis Revision 1

Post by LouMan »

Attached is Revision 1 of the Metropolis map and a few screenshots.

Some of the changes:

1) Textures, textures, textures. UV mapping, UV mapping, UV mapping. See screenshots.

2) Measures to reduce/eliminate player/flag spawn in buildings and outside of playing area.

3) The tunnel bottoms have been extruded and are much easier to drive in - tanks don't get "stuck" while driving along the wall.

4) I added a simple stoplight and a few lights on top of the towers.

5) Made a shot limit of 20 with SW.

Wow, that's cool. They look like real buildings now :).

I made a stoplight:

I think you should add sidewalks and a stopsign :):):). City maps are my preference :):):).

Really great work. Can I stop the sewers from being so dark? I preferred the first style.

I barely talk in the bzflag forums.

I mentioned the sewers being too dark before...Louman's working on it.

Louman, in that image that RPG posted...could you add street lines, markings on the road. If you can get those stoplights that would be sweet but would take a huge amount of FPS from polygons.

You working on the outside of the city textures background (instead of the mountains)? Hope you can do it, it would be sweet.
