Rogue Join Menu Icon

Post by DTRemenak »

As those of you who use 2.0.3b10 have by now probably noticed, the Join Menu in 2.0.4 will have a colored icon next to the team name. See http://dtremenak.bakadigital.com/joinp.png if you don't know what I'm talking about. Anyway, the discussion came up about what color the Rogue tank icon should be...so you choose. Rogue chat text and bullets are yellow, but their actual tanks are dark grey. So...Saturos has kindly made both a yellow and a grey-backgrounded tank icon, like the purple one you see in the screenshot. Both are posted here, the grey one in the "BZIcons again" thread in this forum, and the yellow one in the 2.0.3b10 test thread. Which shall it be?

personally i think it should be yellow (vote is cast), but i have one suggestion.
I think it would look nicer if the gap between the field name and the field itself should be larger, e.g. the gap between "Team" and "Purple Team" in your screen shot.
I just think it all looks a bit cramped. :D

I like grey, because it goes with the colour of the tank, but each has their own opinion. I wouldn't mind yellow, but it would be nice to stick to the colour of tank = colour of icon scheme.

The problem with a gray tank is that the icon of BZFlag itself is gray. I like yellow better anyway, as gray seems a 'neutral' color, and is hard to tell that it is supposed to be a color. It would seem like it would mean a 'no tank selected' warning or something.

I think wohat should be done is not have the background change when you change the team you want, but instead have the tank icon change. So I vote for gray.

And when you shoose "automatic" it could show some tie-dye color, and for observer, it could show a camera.

I like ALL the icons as they are, except for rogue which should be yellow... Congrats to Saturos for being so gifted. ;)

Maybe you could make rouges yellow OTW??? :|
You could see them better then.
(There are probably lots of reasons why this is stupid, but I can't think of any. :P )

Hey, I know what would be cool!

If each of the flags had a different icon, and the icon was displayed on your screen with/instead of the text in the top right hand corner. you could have the option in the GUI menu to have Icon, Text, or both displayed on your screen.

Oh and saturos, do you use photoshop to make those icons? if you do can you send me the .PSD file?

Here's one i made for Laser. It needs to have the cool wavy see-through white effect and everything put on it, and kind of cleaning up too.

For SW, you could show a bunch of ripples. GM: a missle. Inverse Controls: Colliding arrows.

I would say adding 46 icons for flags would boost the file-size of the BZFlag-installer a lot. BZFlag was always small and I think a dev-target is to keep it small.

But ideas for icons come to my mind... it would be exciting, no doubt. :D

The icons are only 5 kb... if you say there's 15 flags, that's only 75 extra KB. Plus you can compress the PNG's.

46*5=230 KB. Might be okay, you are right. But I would say it is going to be veeery difficult to create an unique icon for every flag... challenge or impossible?
I don't know.

If flag icons are made:
  • Make the icon show on the flag when a tank is holding it.
  • Make the icons show on all flags when the Identify flag is held.
  • Possibly add a (server) option that makes all the icons show all the time?
Also, on the same subject, I would really like it if the "obituaries" in the console said what flags the combatants had.

For instance,
L4m3r: killed by Wonko The Sane (SW -> SR)

or

L4m3r (SR): killed by Wonko The Sane (SW)

something like that?
Optimism is just a milder alternative to denial.

They do. Go download 2.0.3. However, it only affects the obituaries of you.

I just downloaded 2.0.3b11. The icon for Automatic is the same for Rogue, which is the gray icon. As I see it currently, Automatic should be the ? with tie-dye and Rogue should be the yellow tank.

Cool....

Genocide should have an icon that looks like a mushroom cloud from an A-Bom explosion --- Anybody who has played Ratchet & Clank will now this is the icon for the "R.Y.N.O" gun that has ultimate devistation properties similar to that of GENO.[/quote]
