Exactly: there must be something wrong to begin with. By claiming that video games, movies, books, whatever cause a person to become violent is completely ignoring the root cause of the violent behaviour in the first place. But then, this is typical considering how people tend to look at the quick and simple solution rather than actually trying to determine the *real* cause.

Ah well...

i voted depends, cuz it all depends on how you look at it. yeah bzflag is a violent game, its got tanks that blow eachother up. but in another sense bzflag isn't violent. its so far removed from the normal, as a monkey said, that people would be hard pressed to relate it to reality.

I'm tired of hearing about that old nutcase.
He has the intelligence of a 12 year old. Hell his emails he sends out sound like a 12 year old AOL kid trying to win a flamewar by misconstrueing reality.
He sucks as a lawyer, so he wants to try to act like god and make a big stink out of minor things.

Bzflag is no more violent that fireworks. Some "fire", a boom, that's it. I would bet that most good players don't even notice the explosion anymore either.

I think we need the following to enhance the bz experience:

flamethrower flag
gasoline spills
chainsaw flag
blood spurts
body parts flying out of exploded tanks
blood on windshield

j/k, though the flamethrower flag might be kind of neat

I remember the old school BZFlag, after you shot your opponent, his tank would bust into flame and a man would come out and surrender, and you could shoot this man. >)

Someday, we can make a super-violent DOOM patch for BZ just to drive people crazy. Sigh, I'm seriously nuts.

Yeah a flamethrower would be cool (Machine gun version 2.0 maybe?).
I dunno about oil slicks.

i think that we need something like a mine-ish thing...oil spill would be ok...radius is set by server variable...but then there is no point in using the flag...b/c if you dont get credit for the kill, its no good.

Beleive me, you notice when you drive straight into the explosion, your framerate drops to 1, and some bloke folowing you shoots you in the butt.

I don't really think BZFlag needs to be more violent. I usualy don't even like violent games (Unless of course I can make crazy maps for them :) ) . BZFlag is supposed to be a fun arcadish reallybasicgraphicsthatlookprettygoodinopengl kinda game, it does NOT need gore/blood/surrendering people to shoot.

Although yes, Oil slicks would be good, its in Streats of Sim City and is great fun in multiplayer, it makes the car spin like crazy and be uncontrolable for about 8 seconds...it was really fun if you turned really hard into the spill and then activated airfoil....you looked like a helicopter then, round and round and round and...

I voted depends. It depends by WHO is playing. RPG is right: no blood, no humans...it's not realistic but the adrenalin is real.
It depends by the brain who is playing, if it's a little mature, it considers this game like a game

Grand theft auto is probably the most violent/graphic line of video games ever to come out. it has an 18 rating. despite this, some parents let their 10-year-olds play it, and the mindless violence might make the kid feel it is alright to hurt somebody, maybe induce bullying of other kids. bullying leads to larger crimes, if it continues as the kid gets older.

bzflag on the other hand (though it may make you frustrated) is verry unlikeley to cause somebody to go out and commit murder, even f it technically might come under "Violent"

Hmm thats a good one it sorta depends on how much u play it but it could make u more violent but not likely, i think the funny things u can do in it sorta makes me think its not.So I am with badboi's opinion.

I voted NO on this issue. BZ is corny, fun. How can you consider it violent when you're in a bright red tank against a bright blue tank? Flying tanks, even, that pick up magic flags?

No, Soldier of Fortune...there's a violent game. After you kill an enemy soldier, you can stand over him and blow him to bits a little at a time watching him flop and twitch, with blood and bone flying. You can blow half his head off, check out the brains, blow the rest off.

Games like that concern me.

THAT'S VIOLENT.

yeah man. BZflag couldn't possibly incite violence into kids. I mean the only thing violent seen here is seen on the news already. Except the news is even more blatently explicit, with car bombs, air drops, guns firing, people dying. I mean come on thomas. You better check yourself before you wreck yourself.
Take that, beyotch.
