What Key Mapping Do You Use?
I use more mouse
I'm more a mouse player, but I use TAB to jump et Q to drop flag. Those are the only exeptions...
Mouse for movement and aim, tab to jump, q-w-e or 1-2-3 for radar control (most zoomed in -> least respectively), n-m-,-.-/ for all/team/nemisis/recipient/admin chat respectively, b for binos, and thats about it. I use the keyboard every now and then for precision movements and to ensure a good acceleration with Agility.

I use default key mapping now, but I used to use l ; ' as radar 3,2,1 respectively, with enter as jump. Later I added q as a second shoot option.
Right now I use the default mappings except I shoot with both left click and Q. I use two keys to be able to fire shots extremely rapidly (I fire faster by hitting left click then q almost instantaneously than by double clicking). It's useful on ducati, or dub as it seems to be now, because you can fire shots a tank width apart across the screen while doing a full turn; I can't double click fast enough to do that with just the mouse as shoot.

A Warning to people who drive with the mouse. You have no way of knowing this, but you are at risk on some servers. The server has settings for mouse users, and will print some dialogue when you start it if you haven't set it properly. Implications of it not being set properly are:
spinning wildly in one direction or another
This makes it very hard for you to shoot, it also makes you look like a cheater to the players around you. I don't know what this looks like from the driver's position, because I drive with the keyboard, and this is not an issue there. So, if you're having spinning problems, I'd suggest using /report and asking the server owner if they'd please change the settings.
Server Owners Here is what the warning looks like:
Note: no acceleration limit has been set. Players using "mouse
enhancements" may cause problems on this server due to very high
acceleration rates which are not handled well by dead reckoning
algorithms. To eliminate this warning, set the -a switch in your
configuration. '-a 50 38' is recommended for standard-speed servers.
Higher speed servers will need higher values for -a in order to not
affect gameplay. '-a 0 0' may be used to shut this message up without
affecting any players, including those using "mouse enhancements".

I started playing with the keyboard. Back then, I set my numpad 0 to jump so I could control my tank's movement with one hand. (On many keyboards, this meant that I couldn't jump while holding the left or right arrow.) My left hand covered Enter to fire and Space to drop flag. I had an acceleration advantage in close combat, but it was always difficult to jump between platforms because I could only control my bearing and timing, not my range. I also found that it was possible to vary the amount you turn in a jump if you hit the keys qucikly enough.
For a very brief period I tried moving over to the mouse. It didn't go so well, and the fact that I use a trackball didn't help.
Now I play with my Logitech Dual Action joystick and love it. I've got what would be the PS2's shape buttons acting as identify/restart, jump, shoot, and drop flag; the start/select buttons acting as pause and fast quit; a set of shoulder keys for zooming the radar in and out and using the binoculars, each of which is held, not toggled; and pushing the analog stick in will toggle slow mode. I formerly set up my second analog stick and the digital pad to each give me 9 key events - 8 for pushing in each direction and 1 for returning to center.
This gave me a total of 30, yes 30, possible key events from the joystick.

I use the keyboard with the defaults, except drop flag and fire are reversed. (space bar fire, enter drop flag)
I don't use the mouse much, but I've got a great setup...
Left button: Jump
Right button: Spawn/lockon
Wheel up: Fire
Wheel down: Fire

ice, that setting has been there for less then 2 months, i was made so people with 'mouse enhancments' don't go too fast, the people with mouse enhancments know who they areIce Wewe wrote:A Warning to people who drive with the mouse.
