Server: ducati ctf

Post by Chestal »

Server Address: ducati.bzflag.org 5156
Server Admin: Chestal

This server runs CTF games, two teams (red and green) with at most 4 players each. It uses a random map, 2 shots+ricochet, no jumping and no superflags. This is the style that is used for the CTF league.

I enforce low lag by a rather rigid lag kill. I also use a short idle kick period of 100s to stop idling players from blocking one of the player slots. A couple of players can admin this server. You can get kicked for cheating, extremely bad behaviour or spoiling the fun in any other way (e.g. teamkilling). I do not use permanent bans at all.

The server is usually well-frequented from about 17:00 - 02:00 UTC by quite a tough crowd. The server runs on an old P75 Linux box and is located at a German university, thus having fast internet access.

ducati servers down

Post by Chestal »

All ducati servers are down due to another file server crash. I cannot say when they will be back. So far the file server machine resisted all attempts of resurrection.

I'm happy to report that the downtiem only lasted for some hours. However, it can happen again anytime until we replace the file server :-(

Admins n ducati

Post by Chestal »

I try to always run the newest CVS code on ducati. As you might already know (for example from bzgirl's posting here), the new code has means for players to register their callsign. I plan to remove the admin password from the server in the near future and go by the new player registration scheme exclusively.

Basically, you login with your real callsign, do /register mypassword once and later you always do /identify /mypassword. After some time, I will have put most of the peopel I know in the groups which give them additinal power, like being able to reset flags oder kick people. It will take some time, though.

I try to synchronize all 3 of my servers, so you just have to register once. Do this on the CTF server (5156) please.

Because there will be some maintenance work on the power system of the university, all ducati servers are unavailable from now on. I hope they will be back online sometime on Sunday.

Post by Chestal »

Sadly, all the ducati servers won't be available this weekend due to maintenance work at the university. The scheduled downtime starts on Saturday 24th 5:00 UTC and is supposed to be over by Monday.
