flags and commands

Post by OO7 »

ok...ive noticed a few things people do.
question 1: how do people take your flags and/or give a flag to you?
question 2: what does the /spawn command do, and how do i use it?
question 3: is there a way to get the server to stop kicking you for supposed "wrong end shots"?

/flag give "player name" flagAbbreviation

/flag take "player name"

So I can give myself laser:

/flag give "a meteorite" L

You need to have the flagMaster perm (which basically means you need to be an admin). If used incorrectly this can be cheating (normal players can't do this either).

There is no /spawn command.

I've seen this caused by lag and firing a GM when it's not configured well (or with - you guessed it - lag). It's meant to prevent cheating.

There are instances when it is acceptable. On BZ Olympics we give flags all the time. It doesn't affect game play above 50m (unless there is a race going on). Usually if someone falls off of the obstacle course we will ask if they want a wings or they will ask for it. Lets them get back to the place where they fell from much quicker.

The other instance where it is acceptable is on a CTF map to stop a player who is knowingly trying to team capture a flag (ban is better, but depends on how fast you type) or for lopsided attempted captures.

ban isnt better even if you dont type fast. if you do the /flag take "whoever" ypu can just hit n then up and itl be there again

...and the "/flag take|give..." commands are password level admin (aka owner) - so I'd say it's pretty safe from abuse.

ANY perm can be assigned to ANY group. It all depends on the server owner. So the abuse level only depends on what perms are assigned, and who is assigned to what group.

i have tried this, and am admin on my map. but all it says is: reset|show|up
i have heard things like it has to do withzones, or it has to do with cvs???

It tells you the server version when you first sign in or by typing /clientquery

You need a fairly recent build of BZFlag (like b5).
