Un-banning users - How to?

Place for people to discuss public servers, and also for admins to lay out the details of their servers

Un-banning users - How to?

Post by Sir Lance-A-Lot »

I know there is an "/unban" command, but I'm not quite sure how to use it.
Do I just put "/unban player "Cheating" ?

Also, if someone has been masterbanned from your server, is it possible to use this /unban command to take them out of that masterban?

Thanks in advance.

You must do (in most cases):

Code: Select all

/unban xyz.xyz.xyz.xyz
Where "xyz.xyz.xyz.xyz" is their IP address. If you are using 2.0.5 BZFS (I think that's when it was added) you can "ID ban" global login users (I think this is default too). I do not know how you unban ID bans, but in all cases, you can:

Code: Select all

/banlist
And see how they were banned and that should give a good guess how.

Yes there is, but maybe talk to one of the Secretplace server people (Maybe SportChick?) cause I don't know how.

One other thing to take into consideration...

Sometime, in the 2.0.5 server build line, a feature was added. If you ban someone with /ban and they are registered the server does a /ban and an /idban AUTOMATICALLY. So to unban them you must do a:
/unban xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and an /idunban "Playername"

It is best after doing an unban for a player to do a /banlist "playername" (this will filter the list) to make sure that you have removed all of the bans for that player.

or, you could go into your banlist file, and just remove the desired IP/Callsign

Unless you are an admin or cop, and not the owner. Say you've re-thought a long-ban for some weenie that made you mad and want to remove the ban.

well yeah, but who has a conscience enough to make them re-think a ban?

If you're a server owner, it can be useful to setup a WHITELIST group. Basically, you create a group with the ANTIBAN permission in it. That way they can't be banned. Silver cat uses this when they have to ban a range of IPs to get rid of a nuisance player.

ugh thats kinda off topic. he was talking about how to unban users, not how to protect them from being banned. but the whitelist idea still works.
