BZFlag beta build 2.0.5b7

Post by JeffM »

Today we have 2.0.5b7.

Windows Installer
http://my.bzflag.org/builds/2.0.x/bzflag-2.0.5b7.exe
(requires DirectX 7+)

All current builds for 2.0.x will always be at http://my.bzflag.org/builds/2.0.x/

Linux and mac folk can, as always, build from sources;
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/bzflag/ or
anonymous cvs; see http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=3248 to download, and read the README for build instructions. 2.0.5 builds come from the v2_0branch tag; use -R v2_0branch.

Please report any issues you have with this build, even if you think we already know about them!

there isn't much diference in this one, it is just a test of some streamlines to the build and install process. As well as some new art.

Thanks for your feedback.

Er, noob question.

I'm a mac user, so how do I compile the source code? I have Xcode, but I can't figure out how to use it (or at least I don't have the time to figure it out). Any help would be appreciated.

I dont see much difference from the last one... If these are betas you should have them replace or upgrade the last beta if one exists, so I dont have 4 different BZFlags nstalled

but hey at least the red tanklooks good

betas are generally for testing not for playing. you should use the stable for that. i'm not going to bother compiling this one - i'm just gonna wait for the stable binary of 2.0.6

the downloads here share bandwith with the fourms and the secretplace server. It's donated bandwith.. it is what we have. so please stop complaining that it "takes too long to download" there is nothing we can do about it. You can help by donating money so we can give a faster server. Otherwise, this is it. If you don't want to wait then don't donload it. The final releases will be hosted on SourceForge and be faster.

Thanks for the update.

/me goes to update nightlys.

I need to redownload NSIS so I can test the new install. Does NSIS need any manual input or can I just run the script?

you have to copy the needed DLLs to the bzflag root dir before you run it. and build the plugins.

you should note that the VC8 build is not set up to use GLEW but the installer expects it.

all your doing difent is P3 optimisations. I don't think that gets anyone anything big.

2.0.6 will be released soon.

Isn't the v2_0branch for current 2.0 builds compatible with stable release? Also, how do you download from the http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/bzflag/ ?

yes 2_0branch is compatable with all 2.0.x versions. hence the name 2.0.5b

you don't download from the web respoitory. you use the other link that has instructions on how to use cvs http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=3248 and get the current source.

Mh, when I use stable versions from SF i get a fps of about 140ms, when i compile it myself with all optimizations, i get a fps of upto 220ms.

Not that my eye is fast enough to see the difference, it does seem to bring something.
