Try this:

-banfile "C:\Program Files\bzflag2.0.4\banfile.txt"

If that doesnt work, place your banfile in the same directory as your server, and just put this:

-banfile banfile.txt

This line:

Code: Select all

#Bad Words filter file specification
-badwords C:\program files\bzflag2.0.4\badwrd.txt"
You should have two quotes around the filepath. You only have one. It should look like this:

Code: Select all

#Bad Words filter file specification
-badwords "C:\program files\bzflag2.0.4\badwrd.txt"

You have a variety of errors in your file.
All files paths are case sensitive. ("CaSe" is NOT the same as "casE" for example).
You cannot just stick random numbers into the file without saying what they are for, such as this:
#Number of superflags that must exist at all times
35
#Number of superflags that may exist at any time
15
You should save your config as a .conf though I think a .txt will work (.conf just makes more sense anyway).
You also would have had about 500 flags on the map, had the server run.

I have attached a new conf file for you with some stuff fixed, as best as I can do and the flag stuff commented out.
Save the SFM.conf file in \Program Files\BZFlag2.0.4\ and then run bzfs with:

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files\BZFlag2.0.4\bzfs -conf SFMconf
If this does not work make sure all the paths are right (I guessed since I'm not on your computer...).

Do this by:
- dragging all the files you need, into the command line, one at a time,
- then copying the path it gives you,
- and pasting this into the conf in the appropriate place.

you see the thing with BZFlag seems to be like with win he cant have a report file and he cant have a banlist and it seems that a windows server cant have more than 10 flags or people cant join and this isnt intended or really proven but its there for some people so it might just be that you cant have a banlist...

If it tells you to use -a 50 38 either add that or ignore it.
It's not required, just suggested.

If you cannot get BZFS to start, you probably dont need it to considering there are more than enough empty servers now. Unless you have an amazing new idea that noones ever heard of before, I personally don't think its worth it. It took me 3 or 4 days to figure everything out completely and I still dont think it was even worth it.

You don't need to go through the trouble to learn to attach (that seems to hard for some newbies incredibly) but please: pastebin.ca

EDIT: The error list you're receiving is from parse errors.... go over your files and check that things aren't random (as said above)

Or better yet, if the bottom 4 lines were the only good part, only paste the bottom 4 lines

Did you try logging into your server on the same computer, using 'localhost' as the server and '5154' as the port? Always make sure that works first.

You're using the following to start up bzfs:

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files\BZFlag2.0.4>bzfs -conf sfmf.conf
If you're running windows, don't you need to do:

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files\BZFlag2.0.4>bzfs.exe -conf sfmf.conf
At least, I think you need to add the file extension for bzfs.exe.

[rant]Why the **** does Windows hide file extensions by default?!? I know it's supposed to make it look less intimidating for your grandmother when she goes through "My Documents" (and the whole "My *" gets a bit grabby too), but it ends up making things more confused. Is it an mp3? is it an ogg? We have no idea, because Windows is hiding it.[/rant]

Try going into "folder options" and unchecking the box that says something like "hide file extensions for known file types"

No, you don't have to have the .exe on the end. There's a short list of extensions Windows knows to use when searching for a program. If he had needed this, he'd be getting a "file not found" or "no such program" kind of message instead of the bzfs help output.

In hiding the file extensions, Explorer is trying to protect the association of the file with a program. It keeps those who don't know better from changing the extension when renaming a file. Those folks don't care if it's an ogg or mp3 -- they just want to double click it, and have a program launch and play it. I'm not saying this is a good thing, or right for everyone. At least there's that option to turn it off.
