2.1.x has been being worked on for some time now, but I guess you can call this the "official" start.

Is there going to be a version 3 in the future? Is there going to be another major fix for bugs?

Presumably there will be a version 3, but from looking at the past that is going to be a long way off.

The next planned release is 2.2, but only super major bugs will be fixed in 2.0.x (such as a new listserver or it starts crashing on 90% of BZFlag users).

The 2.1 development line began shortly after 2.0.0 was released. All of the 2.1 versions are solely developer versions and are not released. When we start stabilizing and get ready to do another major (backwards incompatible) update, the 2.1 line becomes 2.2.0 whenever we finally release. That is not for quite a while, though, i.e. not for several months. If we're consistent with our traditional major release schedule, we're looking at sometime around the end of this calendar year.

I installed a fresh 2.0.8 overtop a 2.0.6 install, then uninstalled the 2.0.6. I'm getting the following error when I try to run BZFlag now (WinXP SP2):
BZFlag Error wrote:No fonts found (the -directory option may help) Exiting
I don't know if it's just me or what...since I got this error directly after a brand-new bz install, I thought I'd report it...

I also get the same error if I uninstall 2.0.8 (so no versions of bzflag anywhere on my pc) and reinstall.

I think the problem is either:

1) It does not install the fonts;
2) It has "forgotten" where the fonts are.

Does 2.0.6 work fine?

If this is off topic sry
I'm thinking I need a better sig than this...

More than likely, it's not really 1 or 2. It usually can't find the fonts or other data resources because there is a "directory" directive in your bzflag config file. You more than likely had a config file that pointed to the 2.0.6 data directory but since you've now uninstalled it, it no longer exists. Hence the error. Open your config file in a text editor and edit or remove the "directory" line.

there will not be a 2.0.9 release.

as stated many times in this thread.

all new development is being done in 2.1.x, for a 2.2.0 release

The releases are made by a team of developers, Learner, Tupone, DTRemenak, Myself, and Tim are often involved in them. No one person does all the aspects of a release.

If history shows any patterns for releases, 2.2 would be done around the end of this year.

How do you guys get together? Have you any idea what 2.2 will be like?

The developers pretty much live in the IRC channel, #bzflag on the Freenode network -- there are instructions elsewhere on the forums and elsewhere on the net for how to connect to IRC (http://irchelp.org might be a place to start).

We have a pretty good idea of what 2.2 will be like, but it is a fluid process, constantly changing. It's very dependent on what the current priorities in the game are and what the interests of all of the capable developers are. Either way, this discussion thread isn't appropriate for talking about what may or may not go into 2.2, it's to announce 2.0.8.

yeah, mine too.

This works:
bzflag -directory "/PathToYourFile/bzflagVersion/data/"

Bzflag finds everything in .../data but doesn't find ..../data/fonts file, maybe the data directory part "PlatformFactory::getMedia()->getMediaDirectory()"
