Team MoFo

Post by I_Died_Once »

Now all thread on here, relating to this tourney has to be started by "openleague"

Now, my question: Who here is interested in signing up to play on "Team MoFo" (thats a generic team name, to represent Planet MoFo's team in the tournament)

All are welcome to volunteer, not all will be chosen to play. I know the OL took some jabs and tried to start some smack with the ductai league - at the ductai people are welcome to apply.

We're gonna roll up the OpenLeague's flag and smoke it. Who wants in?

A-Delusion is going to be the one to head this up. I'm just tired of all the one sided propoganda. We got a dog in this fight, too!
...This has been a recording.

I volunteer as long as I can fit it in my schedule (meaning I need to know when we'll match). I'm probabaly an invaluable asset at some non-MoFo maps too. ;)

I'm in, but I may miss the first match due to the fact I don't have a computer that can run the client right now :(

You OpenLeaguers are "starting smack" with any league that you take a map from. No offense, but I compare you guys to a Wal-Mart that's coming to town. Its convenient, but kills every other store in the area.

By the way I hate Wal-Marts, but that's a whole other thing...

Its not Wal-Mart, its open source, its free to use, and that's what it is made for. Everything that is taken from opensource (like bzflag, like the webleague etc) is automatically opensource itself, or atleast that's what the spirit is made of from having opensource. Everybody that takes opensource and says "mine mine mine" is a, nvm.
you're comment is totaly uncalled for, the smack part until now was two leagues heating up for the final matches, a mere incite, your comment however is a good attempt to ruin the fun of an interleague tournament, and what for?

Whoa I think you misunderstood my post.

First of all, I'm not saying anyone's right in claiming ownership over a maptype or whatever you are accusing me of.

Second, I didn't mention anything about the OpenLeague being in the "right" or not for what they are doing. So your moral argument isn't really valid here. I just gave my opinion. Or am I only allowed to post here if I agree with you?

Third, I didn't make any sort of legal/license comparison between Wal-Mart and BZFlag, so screaming, "BZFlag is Open Source!" is just juvenile. What's legal isn't always proper in everyon'e eyes.

But if you want to dance let's dance:

Just as Open Source gives you the right to fork, it gives me the right to choose. I don't have to use one league or app or OS to get things done because of a feature limitation, I get to choose the one(s) that I want and dismiss those I don't.

For example, some people fly with Gnome, others with KDE. Can I assume one group of people is wrong for being a fanboy of their particular Desktop Environment? No.

Can one group get things done better than the other? No, as long as they know their way around their choice.

If they are being incredible Zealots, does that really affect freedesktop.org's attempt to make things work on both? Of course not.

Now take that and apply to BZFlag. I'm a fanboy/zealot, the match is freedesktop.org. I have not hampered anyone's attempts. If anything, I have contributed by allowing people to view my idea and letting them choose for themselves. Because of my comment, they may take your stance on what I said and think I am a (whatever you were going to say instead of nvm). Then again they might think that a valid comparison. Either way they are more likely to take a side and try out for one of the teams. So how's that different than an incite? If anything its better than one because there's a positive outcome.

Finally, Planet MoFo's league and the Open League have never "talked smack" or even talked at all until you guys posted about it. Not that we oppose the idea of matching your best vs. ours, but writing something like that on top of lying is a low way of making us look like idiots if for some reason we aren't able to mobilize and you are. (our league was shut down a long time ago, and just recently was revived and lacks a player base)

Oh and just to make this clear, nothing I say is the opinion of anyone but myself. I am not speaking as a MoFo admin or on behalf of MoFo.

I didn't post before, so you couldn't possibly know what you had to agree with anyhow.

If you would have voiced your opinion about what league you like more than the OL and give reasons why you would rather play one league then the other, your comparison to opensource desktop engines would be a valid one.

I am not a big fan of OL myself, I think i simply don't like most of the maps they are using. But every league has their distinctive features and a right to be there. OL's feature is to be a league not restricted to a certain map type. That allone makes it a different league to e.g. the ducati league or GU league. Also from what I gather is they play much shorter matches (Mofo people be prepared to have to long debates about match length :D ).
I haven't seen the OL killing any other league until now, both ducati league and GU league are active and working leagues, though OL uses ducati and GU maps amongst many others.

There are admitedly certain players on the OL league that have a big dislike in the ducati and GU league for things that happened, but to set the OL equal to those few is also not valid. From the list of players on the OL, the most active on OL are anyways those that are very active in the other leagues as well (except those banned from the other leagues :D ).

As for interleague matches, I think its a great Idea and should be fun thing to do. Personally I wouldn't mind more of those, between GU and ducati league, or between the OL and the ducati league. Question is what league to play for when member of several leagues.

You said I was trying to ruin the game for everyone with my post; it was that which I disagreed with.

Good point. I just feel more comfortable being part of a league that is dedicated to one type of game. It is not that hard to register at several leagues, and the benefit is you are more apt to play against some of the best players of that particular gametype. For example, at one point Planet MoFo had players that could take on between 5-10 other players alone and actually win. (Wonko the Sane comes to mind) As far as I know, he did not register anywhere else and wouldn't have even if the OpenLeague were around when he was playing. I would not have had the chance to match with him. I guess if I were going to use a Desktop Environment comparison it would be more like Gnome/KDE (OpenLeague) vs. Blackbox/Fluxbox (Individual leagues).

We are pretty flexible about match length. In the past we have done 7 captures, but can really do as few as one or as many as you like, provided players are available.

True but it is possible that this is the result of interleague matches not occurring until now. In order for a team to prove themselves at another gametype or at a bunch of gametypes, it has been necessary for them to join another league.

Yeah it could really split loyalties. I have never had that problem because my favorite servers and players from 1.10 vanished, tried to come back, and couldn't do it. I was forced to find a new server and found MoFo. Every few times I log onto BZFlag I shudder to think how I would be dividing my time had certain servers survive the 2.0 transition.

Personally I'd be most interested in seeing a Ducati vs. Pillbox interleague match. It would have to be at a neutral gametype, like 3 shot w/ rico, or two shot without rico. A combo of the two. That's just me though, I dunno if there is interest there.

I'd certainly be game if that's going to happen, always wanted to know how e.g. the pillbox map would work with rico. A random ducati map without rico could be interesting too, depending probably a little bit how the blocks will be distributed. Or a mofo map without superflags vs a GU map with superflags (not Agility :D )

I'd love to volunteer guys. I don't play CTF, but I have played FFA. . . . Lol. Basically, I want to, but not if my lack of CTF experience will only bring you guys down.
