The tournament is cancelled!

Post by kernel panic »

With no registrations there is no use in trying to have it. No interest... no tourney. Sorry to have wasted your time... I guess it's an idea which is not yet ready for prime time.

Um, I never got any info about signing up for the event????

Charging money for the event might one of the major problems, but having no clue about where to sign up to the tournament is a killer.

Did you mention this in a post waaay back? I was expecting a new post about rules and regulations.

The requisite web site was mentioned in the first post and along the way I mentioned it again and again.

How else would we have had *real* prizes?

I think it might have been a bit too soon to start doing real cash prizes.

It might have been a better idea to have a few tournaments just for bragging rights. Just to get things going you know. Then later once we've established a proper way to do the tournaments, and people are used to them, then hold a "High Stakes" bz-tournament.

Just my $0.02

$10.00 is not high stakes... sorry but it's not.... the prize was not going to be cash... it was going to be a nice high end nvidia video card

I agree with Nugget. I mean.. what's the point of putting $10 in something that you have no experience at? I'm too stingy, yes... but hey, I don't take risks unless I've fully calculated them (unless the results don't cost me anything).

it was just like any other tournament that I have ever entered. And frankly, a high-end nvidia card is a tasty little treat for whomever the winner would've been.

I hope this starts off again in the near future (preferably after august), as I think that would be neat! ;)

Thanks for the effort though kp. I'm sure we can get something together in the future.

My idea of high-end is the quadro workstation line.

Heheh.. One could probably garner slashdot-worthy news, and a couple hundred players, if you made it an nvidia Quadro4 980 XGL.. :)

I'd maybe even consider letting my tank jump for a prize like that!! ... :lol-old:

kp, $10 might not be high stakes to you, but I'm sure it's high stakes to many other people. Take Merry for example. I'm sure $10 is like her entire allowance for a period of time.

I agree with Spiff and nugget in that $10 isn't viable for someone who wants to enter the competition but knows they won't win. Though for me it's different; I would have chipped in $10 for the contest because I have a nice, solid income. Still, for lack of good communication, I didn't know you had a site with info (sorry I missed your links to it if you posted them).

Nugget has an excellent idea in just starting some free tournaments with may be some whimpy prizes or just bragging rights (a nice certificate from a color printer on some glossy paper, with a cheap $1 frame might be a neat prize). Then, when the tournament becomes a regular attraction and people really get into it, you can start offering nice prizes for tournaments with an entry fee (like $10).

...*gasp*, I'm agreeing with nugget?

But, with all that said, I really appreciate your efforts in organizing the tournament and trying to do something fun for the community. :) I'm sorry people didn't sign up. If you posted more here about the tournament dates and such, I might have been able to sign up and keep in touch with it. Oh well.

um, for one thing... you're evil. hehehe

secondly, you're a chicken nugget, the most evil of all fried fast foods. It is a supremely evil deception to fool people into believing it's actually chicken. ;) Pasting together little bits and chunks of chicken meat does not make a chicken nugget, it's chicken meatloaf.

These pretenders hide behind the reputation of the all-mighty fried chicken strip, which is pure and yummy.

Thanks Merry, yes, I posed for the pic with a sort-of "quizzical-grossed-out-like-you-just-ate-sour-candy" look. Photoshop'in it also made it looks even better. :)
