Gamepads/controllers in bzFlag

Post by EvilChickenNugget »

Does anyone else here use a gamepad or game controller in bzFlag? If so, which one, and how is yours set up?

I use my optical mouse in my right and and for my left hand use a Nostromo n50 game pad. Seen here:

Image

The way I have mine setup is I use the D-pad button directly under my thumb as a jump key, the other 3 directions used for radar zoom, the bottom right key as a fire button (still use the mouse button too) and all of the rest are quick-keys for things like lagstats and other commands.

So how about it? Anyone else?

I like my keyboard and mouse, the way it was intended. I don't need any fancy $100 gadget to keep fraggin' tanks. ;)

It does look like a neat device, but probably more useful for games like Unreal Tournament. However, that device would be cool for Patlabor's BZFlag Zero client with all the special moves.

Yeah I know but my MindControl[tm] headset broke and I don't have the 100 grand to get it replaced.

That's why it doesn't work. You're using it all wrong as a headset, as you're supposed to get those professionally implanted in your cranium. :)

It was hard to play with the mouse ...cordless,btn right, center and left...and the strange red light coming from the mouse, and I decided to play with my telekinesis.

I am a keyboard player. I hate mice. ;)

I always played Wolfenstein with keyboard, but with Bzflag, I have found that a mouse helps me with aiming faster. Whether it is the whiskers or the little tail I am not sure. The amount of cheese that I go through is beginning to impact my household budget though. I tried using Cheeztiz, but high concentrations of salt increased the beer budget. I think I am trying a cat next. This way, they can eat my storage of mice. They do have some vibration feedback, but I believe that this was not a design feature. I believe that I may pushing the wrong buttons in that particular instance.

Playing with keyboard only can be sort of fun... but I prefer the mouse. For one, it's easier to fire with the mouse. I couldn't really find a good key as a "fire key" without messing up my map magnification keys... LoL. I'm just too used to the mouse/keyboard combo now. ;)

You'll never be quite as good if you use only the keyboard. Moving your tank with the mouse offers finite movement and aiming you don't get with the keyboard.
