BZFLAG crash: Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Hey!

Since Ive upgraded my Ubuntu to 'edgy eft' bzflag crashes the whole time. The error messege is:

Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Does anyone know what this means or what i should do?

That's a very general error that means several... several things.. stack crash, bad data being passed to the video card, etc. etc...

Did you get any other information?

try finding the dump and reading that, i think it'd be in your home folder or something.

What is 'the dumb'? And why can I find it in the home folder?
These problems came, since I updated my ubuntu to edgy eft...

The dump (not dumb)

. It's a piece of the program in the memory that has the problem that had been written to somewhere on you HD along with other pieces of information that can help you solve problems. Try finding it. I don't know where it is. (I use Window$. Get lots of problems and lots of dumps.)

lucky luke, there should be a log of the problem. Please show us the log, I'm sure myself or someone with programming experience can help. Segmentation faults are extremely common, you might try compiling from source.
(especially if you compiled source and *then* updated)

to get a log::

run bzflag as
bzflag >> /tmp/log.txt

^^if your in linux^^(it'll be in the tmp folder)

do:
start>>run
type "cmd"
type "cd"
type "cd <bzflag directory>"
type "bzflag.exe >> "C:/Documents and Settings/<username>/Desktop/log.txt"

^^if your in windows^^ (it'll be on the <username>'s desktop.)

In the log-file there isnt written anything after a crash.. :/

not sure from mind but i guess the bz crash log is in /var/crash/....

[edit] More precisely, then bug occurs when I connect to a server : BZF just closes. So when I restart it, and change something in my profile, such as the display, I can play a while. But it finished by closing when I try to reconnect a second time. WHen I change the server, I can play once or twice on it, then, when I reconnect, I have the same problem. [/edit]

It happens since I changed dapper to edgy... First I could play but it become more and more buggy, then finally it freeze the system, not just xorg, but the kernel didn't respond too.

When I try to restart bzflag, it just don't want to and print the error op. cit. I can play with another user until this error does'nt come, then, no more.
It seems I can play a bit longer if beryl isn't started.

I'm using ubuntu 6.10, nvidia card (with beta driver), and there's my x.org.conf :

On french Ubuntu's forum we have an answer:

To make BZF work, just launch a server search before connecting to the server you want, and in when it's searching, type escape. Then connect to the server you've selected before this dummy search, and it's done !!!

But why do this work ???

Ah, if it works after looking at the server list then it is the known problem with curl. It turned out curl has a bug in newer versions preventing the BZFlag client to run like it should. This has been reported to the curl devs. In the meantime you should try to downgrade curl to an older version without the bug.

I don't know when the bug was introduced, however.

BTW: Your crashlog seems to be useless as no symbols present.

I'm recently having this problem too. I've ran bzflag with bzflag >> /home/tanner/bzflag_log.txt and in bzflag_log.txt is nothing. I'm am too running Ubuntu Edgy.
