The Gauntlet

Post by LouMan »

Attached is my new map called 'The Gauntlet' (Revision 4) and a few screenshots. It is a fairly small interior CTF, with lots of physics and special areas for special flags. It uses the new flagStay plugin to keep flags in their correct areas.

For those that would like to play it, it is up and running at louman.bzflag3.norang.ca:5155.

{Updated map file to Revision 4 on 12/17/06}

Wow! That looks fun! Good job. Louman does it again. :)

By the way, is that lightning where the grey parts are?

Yes, there are animated lighting bolts :)

Unfortunately, no thunder though.

Hehe, Louman: You never fail to pull off a map that i've been working on for a couple of weeks already - I was doing something with a similar idea :P Good work; yours is about 100 times better.

Oh? Are we getting a map object that calls sounds?

the API has the ability to tell a client in 2.2 to download a wav file, and then when to play it. So a plug in could be made that would read a custom sound object and tell everyone to play it.

Thanks for the kudos. :)

I can't wait for the ability to trigger custom, local sounds.

How will sounds be triggered? I have had trouble in the past coordinating the timing with texture matrices and world weapons; will I be able to synchronize with the texture matrices used in the lightning somehow with a thunderclap?

depends on how far we go. It probably would not be a hard thing to send out a message from the server that gave a periodic "reset" of the texture timers to get them in sync. I'm also working on code so the client can better compute what time the server thinks it's at so we can get syncs.

maybe also put a tag into the texture matrix that trigers it based on a named message or something. so the server would say "flash now "

Plugins are for server-side functionality and are loaded on the server. This particular plugin in included in the source code in the CVS repository. Clients need to do nothing to have the functionality, it is loaded on the server.

thanks Donny,
but I run some maps on a private server, and I want to use this map (looks great) ...
and so, I have to use the "plugin" fonctionnality, but does I need to compile something, or do I have to download the plugin from CVS directly ?

What is the extension for plugins files ?

I only played on it a while, but I congratulate you on another good map.

I like the concept of going in to a certain room or area for a certain flag, while, at the same time, this seems to be one of your simpler maps in many ways. :)

Good job. 8)
