short typing messages

Post by Papy »

Hello !

Pleasure with BZF is to meet tanks you already know from previous games and usually you send or receive a " hi " from the chaps.

Anyway quite usefull to type short messages during the games but some are just chinese for european with basic school english.

Understandable :

hi = hello ..bonjour..gutten tag
CU = See You..au revoir...aufwiedersen
sry = Sorry...pardon..Entshuldigund
np = No problem..Pas de problème..Kein problem
ours = versus flag is ours

But, and especially tactics order from leader are not clear :

protect = protèger,...yes but protect what ? our flag ? tank with the flag ?
base = return to our base ?
and quite a lot of 2 letters I just can remember or understand.

Would someone be kind enough to edit the most used ?

Have a good day

:D :idea:
Be Happy...

protect often means to defend your own base against enemy tanks.

Another word you might see a lot is "cover", which means to keep enemies from shooting the player who has an enemy flag and is going to capture it.

Base can mean different things, but the most common variant is "Help at base", which means that a defender is having trouble with keeping an attack out, and you need to go back and help get rid of enemies.

Some 2 letter phrases:
ty = Thank You
ns = Nice Shot
gs = Good Shooting
gg = Good Game
rf = Red Flag (Get it, usually)
gf, bf and pf = Green Flag, Blue Flag, Purple Flag - as with Red Flag.

I use 'theirs' to tell my team that the opp's flag is out of the base, often right after I have been killed carrying it.

I use 'ours' to mean 'our flag has been taken/take care to recover it'.

It seems to me that the version of 'ours' Papy has there is something like 'their flag is ours', which would not be the same as mine. Or am I misunderstanding him?

The one I hate the most is "help!"

Help what? Help where? Why? When?

I usually just type "eek! Oh darn!" :lol-old: I never use "help". If you do use help, say something like "help mid" or maybe "help with ours", not just "Help!"

Geno=An opponent player has the Genocide flag, and you should try to fool yourself into believing you can do something about it.

SW [mid] (Used at Viper's as well as other CTF maps)=Formally means that an opponent player has the Shock Wave flag, and you should not go towards the them (this is usually the middle of the map). (But my idiot teamates always blame me for killing them after I say this five or six times so don't sweat this one too much).

gl=Good Luck.
hf=Have Fun.

Lol, Muffin. You are right. Help doesn't work.

nvm = never mind

Also replacing 'f' with 'b' to refer to a team base. Ex: gb(green base) etc...

Since this thread seems to be on topic, could some tell me what IIRC and ciao both mean?

IIRC = if I remember correctly
ciao = (pronounced chow) is hello/goodbye in Italian, but many countries of the world use it. Most notably in the Americas, especially Peru, Chile, Brazil, and Argentina. It was brought over by Italian immigrants.

IIRC can also be 'If I ReCall', IIRC.

I've also seen 'FWIW', 'FYP'. Anyone got any ideas?

"have st going red" - Usually sent to only teammates. It means a player has a certain flag and is going to attack another base. In this example, it's a player with Stealth going to red base.

afaik = as far as i know
fyi = for your information
bi = bye
buy = bye
gtg = (i) got to go
cya = see you
l8er(s) = later(s)
m8 = mate
kewl = a cool 8) way to say cool
wazzup = what's up (can mean just hello)
howdy = hello, hi
lol = laugh out loud
lmao = laugh my .ss off
rofl = roll over the floor laughing
roflmao = yes, a combination of the above two

there are other variations of lol like lolol, lololol, lolz, lols, lool etc.. usually i use these during a bz game to make fun of people or rub it in after a victory.

there are also words that are used to express varying degrees of surprise and/or fustration (like after being killed or a ctf by the enemy team) = gah, meh, doh, bleh, wth, wt.. plus a few other words that get censored on most servers.

http://www.acronymfinder.com/ should be useful
http://www.urbandictionary.com/ probably the kewlest site ever
